“Look Around” - Red Hot Chili Peppers - Official video
Oh hey, it’s a new Red Hot Chili Peppers video. It’s kind of embarrassing. Anthony Kiedis lasts max 20 seconds before taking his shirt off, and also I’m incredibly uncomfortable with the fact that he’s got his 4-year-old son in this video. Why is the kid there? He functions as nothing more than a prop. Moreover, there are seven other RHCP offspring, and they aren’t in this video. Don’t get all Katherine Heigl on me, AK!
Anyway, this video from director Robert Hales shows each band member performing in a different room. Fan site Stadium Arcadium reports that the video was shot in just four takes (most music video shoots last 12-18 hours), with all four sets filmed simultaneously.
Anthony Kiedis sings in a red room outfitted with pictures of himself on the wall, model of the moment Charlotte Free, his Rhodesian Ridgeback (Sammi or Katie?) and his son, Everly Bear. Chad Smith drums alone in a bathroom with a punching bag. Josh Klinghoffer sits in a windowless, gray room with one chair and a small lamp. Flea’s space looks the most alive and lived-in, a fully-furnished space with art, records and a spunky, blue-haired female companion to boot. I’m not 100% sure what the band is trying to tell us about their personalities, but of all the rooms in this video, Flea’s is the place to be. Stadium Arcadium reports that an interactive version of this video is on the way - in it, you can choose which room to view, and switch rooms as you like. I wonder if they’ll be collecting data to find out who the most popular Pepper is these days.
